I'm not going to preach the gospel of organ donation. But I just learned today of an online organ donation registry that makes it simple to establish your desire to be an organ doner. The site is only for California residents I believe and is called DonateLifeCalifornia. If you are so inclined, I would strongly urge you to go sign up. It should literally take a minute and a half (just make sure to have your driver's license handy).
What are your top 5 movies/DVDs of 2006?
I don't see any movies, so it is probably the 5 movies I saw. In fact, my top movies of 2006 could well be 2005 movies since I don't see them until they are on DVD while I'm traveling. But here are a few that come to mind.
Ok, it is really pathetic that I can only come up with 4 movies and I'm sure that at least a couple of them are actually from 2005. That said, I'm sure that I'll have a couple 2006 movies in my 2007 list, so it all comes out in the wash.
When I travel, I often stop off at the video counter to see what used DVDs they have that I can take on the road. Last long trip I finally watched the fantastic "Walk the Line." This time I bought the incredible "Wordplay," the documentary about the crossword puzzle championships. Not only is it an absolutely fascinating tale of obsession and brilliance, it is a stunningly well edited film. The storylines fit together like the very crossword puzzles the documentary celebrates. This movie made me want to do a crossword puzzle. But moreso, it made me want to see "Wordplay II," the tale of the following year's crossword puzzle competiton. If you haven't seen this film, do yourselve a favor and rent it right away. Fantastic entertainment!
I have been in far too many conversations with phone reps -- particularly phone reps from telecom companies -- during which no amount of reason could change the minds of the morons on the other end of the phone. So this recording was both funny and horrifying at the same time. This poor guy was repeatedly quoted a rate of .002 CENTS per kilobit, yet repeatedly charged .002 DOLLARS per kilobit. There is a difference. Yet the Verizon phone reps can not understand the math enough to tell the difference. Frankly, this guy stays way calmer than I could possibly have. I would have absolutely sworn repeatedly at this morons. He simply sighs and tries desparately to get them to do the correct math. Alas, to no avail. They never discern the difference between two one-thousandths of a cent and two tenths of a cent. I think Verizon deserves to be called out for their terrible, stupid customer service. We have all lived this powerless nightmare. At least this time someone recorded the idiocy for all of us to call out as idiotic. (Nod to my dad for pointing me to this recording and for teaching me the difference between .002 cents and .002 dollars)
