In your ultimate dream house, what does your favorite room look like?
I suspect that my dream room and Julian's dream room would be the same thing. I have always wanted a great big music studio. Not necessarily a recording studio. But a great big room full of musical instruments. Wouldn't it be amazing to have a room with a 12 foot grand piano in the center and have all of the walls lined with hanging instruments. You could pull down a trumpet or french horn from the brass wall, a barry sax or oboe from the woodwind wall, a tabla or a mouth harp from the percussion wall, a cello or a mandolin from the stringed instrument wall. I can't think of anything more exciting than to walk into a room that has every imaginable instrument waiting to be taken down and played. That's not just my dream room, that is my dream.
What are your top 5 movies/DVDs of 2006?
I don't see any movies, so it is probably the 5 movies I saw. In fact, my top movies of 2006 could well be 2005 movies since I don't see them until they are on DVD while I'm traveling. But here are a few that come to mind.
Ok, it is really pathetic that I can only come up with 4 movies and I'm sure that at least a couple of them are actually from 2005. That said, I'm sure that I'll have a couple 2006 movies in my 2007 list, so it all comes out in the wash.
What song gives you the most holiday cheer?
Submitted by Roxy.
This one is a no brainer -- it is "Dreidel Dreidel Dreidel." Just kidding. That song is the scourge of ever Jewish kid's existence during Christmas. There are 8 million beautiful Christmas songs (many of which were written by Jews -- can you say "White Christmas"?) and one pathetic little Chanukah song. Give me a break. Clearly I'm not the only one who felt that way. Adam Sandler to the rescue. If you haven't heard Sandler's "Chanukah Song," you need to listen to it. If you have heard it, you need to listen to it again. Too funny. Better yet, over the years Sandler has written three versions. Each one is great but I think the original is the best. Some time ago I wrote an homage to the Chanukah Song on SaysMe! It gets more comments than any other post on that blog -- 90% of which are antisemitic. Nicely done antisemites. But enough of my yammering, here's Sandler's Chanukah Songs I, II and III.
Do you listen to podcasts? Are there any you'd recommend?
Inspired by Alex.
I started a podcast for VentureBlog called VentureCast. Originally it simply involved me keeping a digital audio recorder in my pocket and recording a few comments driving up and down the highways of the Bay Area. It was unbelievably noisey and stream of consciousness. It was fun to record but pretty episodic. Then a friend of mine named Craig Syverson, who does a great video podcast called VideoGrunt, suggested that we revive VentureCast. We just recorded the first new episode with Craig interviewing me and our plan is to do it biweekly from now on. We'll see how it goes. I'll post a link to the new podcast as soon as I've got one.
What do you collect?
While studying in England I was hanging out in a bookstore and happened upon a few different versions of Alice In Wonderland. One was illustrated by Ralph Steadman (who also illustrated all the Hunter S. Thompson books). The Steadman version was so nutty that I ended up buying it.
So began a minor obsession with Alice In Wonderland. I need another shelf in my office because Ihave too many versions. They are all amazing but I am now proudly displaying a version of Alice that my sister Lauri just published. It is absolutely beautiful.
If you had a band, what would you call yourselves?
Question submitted by Zoot.
I liked the name of my high school band the best. We were called The Generics. Best of all, we all had white t-shirts with black lettering -- mine said "Bass Player." My favorite band in college was when I filled in for a singer-songwriter named Debbie Wicks and we called ourselves the Debbie Wicks Experience.
What is your favorite cover song?
Question submitted by Ray.
I love any cover song by DEVO. They've done a number. But the classic is a cover of The Rolling Stones song Satisfaction.
What's your cell phone's ringtone? What made you pick it?
I use a number of different standard Treo ring tones depending upon who is calling. But I also have a random They Might Be Giants ring tone if someone calls me who is not in my address book at all. Despite really liking TMBG, it is actually a really crappy ring tone. It is far too complicated to be a ring tone. But I downloaded it some time ago while doing dilligence on a company that was involved in the ring tone business and I have never bothered removing it. I had other choices of ring tones in my dilligence. I should have picked the John Cleese ring tone in which Cleese said, "It's in your pocket. Not that pocket. The other pocket." Actually, now that I think about it, I definitely should not have chosen that ring tone. It would have been really annoying. In fact, come to think of it, I hate ring tones. I'm going to get rid of my TMBG ring tone in the morning. Thanks for breaking the innertia QOTD!
Go to one random page in Explore Audio. What CD do you see that you're most interested in listening to?
Ok, who knew this album even existed. Now I may have to get it (courtesy of "boyschoir").
Who is your favorite Muppet? Why?

No brainer. Statler and Waldorf. Who doesn't love the guy who sits in the balcony to kibitz. I would like to figure out how Dick Costolo and I could get that job for the Web 2.0 Conference. We could officially be Statler and Waldorf of the Web 2.0 world. That would rock.
